Experience
Dr. Lozano brings a strong academic background in language teaching and research from international institutions, including Princeton University, Columbia University, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and Cervantes Institute. She has developed and published articles, learning materials and textbooks, and conducted workshops on language acquisition. She has co-designed a multimedia course on multilingualism for Erasmus students collaborating with faculty and designers to develop engaging content that reflects linguistic diversity and intercultural communication.
She is currently collaborating with the Science of Diversity Lab at Harvard University. The Science of Diversity Lab is dedicated to exploring social justice and polarized issues through a scientific lens. Dr. Lozano collaborates on academic and communication efforts to broaden the real-world impact of diversity science. Her responsibilities include editing a book for publication, preparing the bibliography for a Harvard course, reading research findings, and providing professional advice for the launch of a lecture series on artificial intelligence and scientific thinking.
Research
Dr. Lozano’s PhD thesis and research specialize in third and additional language acquisition, with a particular focus on the cognitive and social factors that shape multilingual learning. Her work examines how individuals acquire, process, and use multiple languages within diverse social contexts. Her research on language-learning techniques has been published by the Instituto Cervantes, and she has authored articles on linguistics in specialized journals such as Revista redELE and Cuadernos Cervantes.
She is currently broadening her research by exploring international relations, seeking to connect multilingualism with cross-cultural understanding, the science of diversity, and the development of critical thinking across global contexts.
International Organizations
Complementing this academic foundation, Dr. Lozano has extensive experience in project management, communication, and administration gained through her long-standing career at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. She worked in the Office of the Secretary-General, the Office of Counter-Terrorism, and the Office for Humanitarian Affairs, where she provided support to multi-stakeholder programs and strategic initiatives, and facilitated interagency collaboration.
Dr. Lozano has also provided outreach support for UNESCO's Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report, contributing to the dissemination of its analysis on global education trends and equity. She has supported the promotion of key findings through strategic messaging, tailored communication materials, and coordinated outreach activities across digital and stakeholder channels.
Additionally, she brings expertise from her role at the European Commission, where she serves as a cultural expert evaluating EU-funded projects, providing analytical reports and recommendations to ensure alignment with European cultural policies, funding objectives, and priorities.
Academic background
Dr. Lidia Lozano holds a PhD cum laude in Spanish Philology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, a Master’s in Education from the Universitat de Barcelona, and a BA in Philology from the Universitat de Girona. She is currently completing a Master’s degree in International Relations at Harvard University. She is fluent in English, Spanish and French, and has a basic knowledge of German and Italian.
